And as usual we're starting off with a look at a new chord, and the chord that we're gonna be doing in this video is the G chord.

There's our note D . . . So, we're using kind of the third shape there.

If you are used to playing a regular A chord, then A7 is as simple as lifting off your first finger and you've got A7.

OK, here we are looking at G7.

So, what I'm gonna do now is, we're gonna be looking at an E chord.

It's the wrong chord. It's the wrong chord. It's the wrong chord.

So we were just playing a G chord but the finger picking would have been exactly the same for an E or an Emin.

O'MALLEY You got chord number one, chord number two, chord number three.

So I'm not necessarily gonna be playing one chord for a whole four beats there might be two beats on one chord and two beats on another chord

The main issue here is that it's very similar to a C.

It's that kinda sound when we've got this little bass pick up strum bass, strum strum bass, strum strum bass, strum strum bass

On your left hand you are holding down a G chord.

We hit them all together and we got a nice chord.

This is my old E chord there, and I can play any chord, any open chord,

And it s been split up in successive bits and a chord.

And now you might go to a chord like Db

Let's test that and play an open G chord.

Now if I put the capo on the first fret and play an E chord, it's one semitone higher, so it's now an F chord.

And this is the last one, this is the C chord.

I'll show you all of the different variations of playing an open G chord.

A regular old 1st generation G chord if you like.

Now, if you find yourself ever struggling with this one a good way, to get to it as well is from C chord.

A lot of people have trouble hearing the difference between a minor and a minor 7, including me, I might add.

Now, there's a second area too. If we had the G chord using the second shape . . . then we have C chord using the first shape, just nearby . . . back to G chord . . . and D chord we can just go back a little bit. . . .

Because now if you start to listen to, say, a B chord, this is a B chord with an E shape barre chord . . . and this is a B chord with an A shape barre chord. . . . and you can kinda hear they're different because the E shape (plays) uses all of the strings.

So when you say A7, it really means A dominant seventh.

So you are, in fact, a chord each of you an individual chord.

Now, the first variation that you want to learn of this, or the first kind of way of changing this into another chord, is by lifting of the 2nd finger, will get us an Am chord.
